To stay clear of Rule #4 Erik would have had to walk his bike the remaining 20-25 miles to Lima.  In view of the conditions, this might have been foolhardy.

In my humble view, Rule #4 should be amended to permit forward movement in vehicles to effect repairs to bike or body as long as bike and body resume from the point of pick-up - just as Erik did.  To strictly invoke Rule #4 as written today would be unconscionable.  I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

I have -12 diopter lenses that fit without eyelash rub in Bolle Vigilantes. 

Rather than light weight to be fast enough to ride out of trouble, I'm much heavier in order to better deal with what can go wrong.  But nobody wants weight "for no reason" and for that I have found the information on this site very useful.

I plan to be on the Great Divide this summer, leaving Banff June 26.  And I'll have a full complement of tools that I'd be happy to loan out.  Hopefully though, when we meet we all will be riding.
