It's probably a good time to remind everyone to donate what they can to the CTF. I know last year, the CTF expressed great gratitude towards the CTR because of all the support they received from CTR riders. We want to keep up that generosity in supporting the CTF since they support us and what we do.
Ditto for Trackleaders...folks there are likely putting in some long days...

I'm not necessarily planning on camping there I had a similar thought in that, strictly as safety information in the event of extremely inclement weather, it would be good to know where they are. I have only seen references to a yurt and to a cabin or two, but no list. Definitely not planning on using them or displacing backcountry renters, but it would be a shame for a person to be in need of and close to emergency shelter, but to not know that it is there. I took the Leadville bypass. Roads were fine.... No issues with that bypass whatsoever.... Although all my spot stalkers thought I'd screwed up and got off-route.
Can someone please explain this? I thought that the course is what it is, I didn't realize that there was an "alternate" route. I am IN for 2014, but since there are large portions of the CT that I have not ridden before, I am doing a lot of studying based on the CTF's Data Book and topo maps. Thanks for the help!

There is a great scene at the end of Race Across the Sky when Lance stops because he has a flat...he doesn't know where the #2 rider is, but he also, clearly, doesn't have a clue what do about a flat. Double panic. Like a deer that is NOT in the headlights of a support vehicle. So he just rides it in... I thought that scene was greatly amusing. And telling...

I think she is still in Ricco recovering from altitude sickness Not still on the ridge (like her spot says)? That would be good...

She's probably in WAY over her head...but those make the best adventures if you can survive them. As someone with more than a little experience in the middle, ok, at the back of the pack, I can tell you that we are working just as hard and suffering just as much as those at the front who are killing it! We're all doing our own race, that's what makes it great! And I LOVE the fact that she has a whole bunch of caring eyes watching her blue dot. This is what I love about this sport.

It is an easy turn to miss going eastbound on the CT.
Yikes! As an East Coaster who will be doing this next year without the benefit of pre-riding, this type of comment is not re-assuring!

Forums / Routes / GPX file format/display question
|

Warning: Total newbie with gpx stuff...thanks in advance for your patience.
I put one of the CTR GPX files into a GPX editor (it's called GPX Editor and it is from SourceForge) and saw that I could view all of the points as a list. When I did that, I saw that one of the columns was "cmt" or comment. This has great info such as "stream" "route split" etc. Does anyone know if there is a way to access this info via the screen of a garmin etrex?
My original goal was to see if I could add icons (or something) to the GPX file so that I could get additional info on the etrex screen without having to stop and open up the CT Data book.
Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated.
Mike

It's hard to talk to people and say, "I am looking for a bicycling shoe that is good for walking in." Lots of strange looks. I did a lot of looking around and ended up with the Mavic Rush. They have a nice rubber sole, the cleats are a bit "recessed" so you don't have much metal on rock contact, and they're ventilated so they are cool and dry fast. I think that they will be great for the CTR.

you are far more likely to get struck by lightening or crash off of something really steep and dangerous I /KNEW/ that, but it's good to hear it again. So far my stars are not lining up very well for 2013, but I am proceeding as if. And if not 2013, then definitely 2014. Thanks Toby. And thanks to everyone for the great info! Michael
