Thanks in advance.

... he might be losing elevation due to altitude sickness. Looks like there is a road further down Pole Creek that heads West to Silverton.
When you go down Pole Creek, you get to an intersection with the road to Silverton. But if you turn right (west) toward Silverton, you have to climb up to get over the top before going down into Silverton. If you turn left (east) that road goes down and down, following the canyon of the Rio Grande River. The road comes out near Creede, CO. That would be the bail. Past the Rio Grande Reservoir and down to Creede.
5  Forums / Classifieds / Niterider MOAB HID w/extra MOAB battery on: September 02, 2009, 10:10:55 AM
The Niterider MOAB (Mother Of All Batteries) Li-Ion battery driving the HID lamp allows for 11 hours at low intensity, 9.5 hours at medium, 7 hours at full brightness. Having an EXTRA MOAB BATTERY means that you can burn full intensity for 14 hours without needing to recharge anything.

The lamp also has a low-intensity LED option, which is more than adequate for doing low-speed dirt road climbing and adequate for some commuting. A single fully-charged MOAB battery will drive that setting for 480 hours.

This setup works perfectly. Has never failed or run less then the expected time. Batteries have been kept charged up, even during periods when I wasn't night riding. Both batteries have been used extensively this summer. Both are in great working order, driving the lamp as long as they ever have.

The connector style is I think the best, most robust one that Niterider has ever used. See the 2nd photo for close-ups of the connector.

$400 $350 shipped to anywhere in the lower 48, or make me an offer! Not doing business outside of the lower 48 USA.

Anybody out there rely partially on robot food? Talking about powders really and not bars.

In '07 some of the GDR riders who were in Absolute Bikes split a big can of Hammer Recoverite, put what they could fit into a freezer-size ziplocks and gave me the rest. I know that you aren't going to find Hammer stuff in the Circular K, but starting out with a healthy supply (or having plenty for a 3-7 day trek) would not be hard. Protein powders like Perpetuum (which I can't use because Soy powder blows me up like a meat balloon) or just ordinary powdered Egg, Rice or whatever protein seem like they'd be weight efficient.

I'm a Hammer addict, but haven't gone on overnights yet. I suspect I'll bring at least some HEED and some Recoverite for the end of the day. On big one-day rides I've used rice protein powder (with limited success) and walnuts, Hammer bars, Honey Stinger bars for my protein source. I've had trouble finding a good lightweight source of protein that my body likes.

The gasline section I'm talking about is that part between Oracle and Freeman. That's what I was calling the 500 bitches.

I was wondering if there's a section of it out there north of Freeman anything like that. Huffing that mofo section between Oracle and Freeman with a bikepack load would be hurtful. But it sounds like the part north only has that little bit of gasline. I'll do that sometime. This winter would be killer. Got my fingers crossed on that.

I'll be watching for those pics.

Hey there kids,

I won't be visiting AZ again in '08 (alas) but I'm thinking about a trip or trips in Jan, Feb, mebbe March. Do that Antelope Peak thingy perhaps.

Here's the thing: I've ridden quite a bit of the AZT around Antelope Peak and north from the Freeman Road. I usually basecamp at the Willow Springs Ranch Old Pueblo venue and excursion from there. I've only been about 7-8 miles north on AZT from the Freeman Road. What happens out there? How much is complete? I'm considering doing a bikepacking jaunt out north from Antelope Peak to who-knows-where.

I've ridden the 500 bitches on the pipeline road between Oracle and the Freeman Road--if that's the fate of the section north of Freeman, um, not sure I'm into that.

What's yer verdict? Where does the AZT rejoin semi-civilization after going north from Freeman? Kelvin? Riverside, Superior?
9  Forums / Question and Answer / BOB Nutz on: October 07, 2008, 07:04:53 AM
I just got a BOB Trailer and towed it for the first time a few weeks ago on singletrack. Much less obtrusive than I expected it to be!

Here's the thing: the skewer that comes with the trailer seems to be a bit on the cheesey side (no offense to BOB). Just seems based on a really low-end skewer. Further, skewers tend to be less strong than solid axles and bolts. Seems to me that BOB Nutz and solid axles would be more robust and stiffer.

I'm getting a new tough touring rear wheel, and I'm thinking of using either an LX or XT hub. Does it sound like a good idea to remove the standard length axle, put in a longer one, and then get BOB Nutz for the trailer?

Oh yeah, another question about BOB. I assume that BOB has no solution for the 10mm DT through-bolt setup, and probably no plans for such? I don't expect that, but if anyone knows differently, share it.
