Austin Killips is laying down a great ITT ride despite being hung up yesterday for over 9 hours with rear tire issues between Abiquiu and Cuba. She's about to get to Pie Town at 13 1/2 days into her effort. Go Austin!

And Edyn just finished!  15years old ... this young fellow is going to crush some serious stuff in the future. He had a great ride at Stagecoach 400 earlier.  Congrats!

Major efforts are still being done out there.

Hat's off to Ashley Cordingley who snapped his crank arm off yesterday, seems to have walked some, then scored a ride down 180 to Silver City, got the thing replaced today and is back on track somewhere just past Elk Mountain heading toward the Gila. Nice work!

Justinas's ride is just beyond amazing.

Am sitting here looking at trackleaders now and Ulrich is 12 miles from the Border so he'll be another sub-14 day finisher. And seeing Mike Hall's dot just up the road behind him, headed to AW for the last time. Awesome efforts all.

Starting to think Justinas can beat 13 days ....

And the Mike Hall dot is at Pie Town, so he really stepped on the gas during his last day and half.

I have not done Koko, but the old route had a single track section by Elkford, and then you got to do Flathead Pass, which was paved going up and just pretty much trashed out rubble with a running river in the middle of it on the way down.  I think from everything I have read Koko nets out as harder but the old route has it's own "charms"

Meaghan is smashing things also, she's putting down a powerful ride, and Ana is not too far behind.

Lots going on today!

I think Justinas has got this thing ... he's just stamping out the miles. 20 miles from Pie Town

Seems like the bigger rain events in NM are mostly east of I-25.

Amazing performance.

The monsoon kicked off here in Southern Arizona yesterday afternoon ( it "seems" like it's a week early ) the pattern is usually a curve from here or just east of here into New Mexico ....  be interesting to see what happens in New Mexico, having been stopped dead in my tracks there a couple of times.

Justinas is simply cruising along ... in Del Norte now with the Mike Hall dot near Sargents. Awesome efforts being put down.

Steve Magelssen looks to be taking Separ Road all the way north instead of Gage Road ... its awfully hot out there to be venturing into the unknown, but looks like it'll work out.  That might be the place where I took a wrong turn and ended up in front of some guy's house after a couple of sandy miles .. if you're not properly zoomed in on your GPS it's easy to do.  And just a bunch of people in the north headed up Koko already!

Nice group of Northbounders this morning ... looks like MJ missed the new CDT trail piece, the rest are getting within a few miles of that turn off. Old habits ( pavement to I-10 ) may be hard to break   :-)

Rewatching Ride the Divide now, ..... wishing everyone a great ride this year!

Curious ... I think the new route piece just south of Hachita was in the works for quite a while, but does anyone know what the piece by the Tyrone mine is all about? ( other than to just get off pavement ) .. construction?

From what I can tell, they just ask exactly the same questions over and over again on every single FB event group.

Even when there are pinned posts telling you all about "send an email to tourdivide@gmail.com" ... they still ask about it. But Facebook is all about clutter, that's their thing :-)

Hi Bonnie -

I'm not riding but did an August depart last year 8/20/21. Dp and I chose that date based on potential best weather window, course wide. Neither one of us made the distance but our weather strategy was solid. We had some light showers (not cold) first day and a half. But the rest of our ride, the weather was perfect.

To my point;

Why do you think there is such hesitancy for  a larger and later group depart? I started with the GD in 2014 as well, that was also a terrible snow year. I can't understand so many risking an adventure this monumental in scope on bad weather, as 2022 was. What year did the race leaders get stuck at Brush Mountain? The weather track for a depart anywhere in the middle of August just makes so much sense.

I know the June date is because of daylight hours. Me, I'd rather ride a couple hours in the dark than a couple hours in snow or worse yet, freezing rain. Dp here and I even started a August depart FB page, little to no interest.
Think of the time invested in training, money invested in gear, time away from work, time away from family. Based on all that, why risk bad weather, that seems more likely, than not.

Discuss...

I "think" several folks who were doing GDMBR, leaving close to your time ran into serious mud in New Mexico. Going northbound, leaving in early June seems to work well as long as you don't blow yourself out of the running on the first couple of days ( it was 100 degrees at Lake Roberts in '21 and then it got hot ).

Guess tradition is the reason for the 2nd week. Kinda wondering what Parks Canada is going to be saying regarding next year after having a bunch of folks getting evacuated this year.

For cholla, get and carry a comb.  Google "pick comb for curly hair" and get one!

Flicking the cholla off with it is pretty painless, trying pliers you'll tend to end up pulling on one side of the thing and the other side digs in a little bit ( ouch ) ... the comb goes in underneath the thing and you flick it off.

The brooms have long ago hit Antelope Wells, but there are still several folks out there getting things done. Stephen and Moez finished today. And our last female rider, Audrey, is in Grants. Go back of the pack folks ... finishing this thing is one awesome experience.

Posts over on FB indicate that there were maybe 10 SAR call outs in the last couple of days from the Fernie SAR folks. And Sofiane is heading to a section from Lime to Island Park that appears to be closed. Wonder what the reroute ( if any ) is?

I think it's called chainsuck.

mud has got to be the worst ... I hit the area south of BML after a little summer rainstorm and was stopped in my tracks out where the sheepherder lives ( there's a sign calling it Slater Park ) ... in a matter of 30 seconds the bike becomes immovable ... it suddenly weighs about 100 lbs more ( maybe not, but feels like it ) .. can't roll, can't drag, can't carry, can't push ... thought about just throwing it in the creek and walking out ... these folks were feeling that, plus snow and cold ... serious admiration for those that made it through
