I heard a rumor that Matt Lee is coming out of retirement to race Jay Petervary, Mike Hall, Craig Stappler, and Cjell Money in 2014 on the grand depart nobo.
Haha! Nobo is the new sobo?

Questions: what do guys like Mike Hall and Jesse do for a living--or others for that matter? what do the riders do on the days after they've finished? (ride, eat, sleep, etc.....?)
I'm not sure what Mike does but Jesse is putting his post-grad studies in Theoretical Physics to good use in the Finance Industry. http://newmarketcapital.com.au/about.html

I think that might have been Mrs NH's boy racer, said farther of Miss 3yo and Mr 5yo. I've noticed he's been peddling a lot faster since his bride posted on the forum .... me thinks he would be stripped of more than his citizenship if he got caught having a self indulgent beer! Teehee!

I have just had an Australian refuse a free Beer.
Wonder if he will be stipped of his Citizenship?
If it's the one I'm thinking of, he's not a huge drinker but can eat his own bodyweight in custard donuts.

Thanks Woody, I'll have a look at that in the quiet moments between blue dot stalking. And Canbaroo, I had forgotten about Saemi & Reto! Nothing cuckoo about that pair ...*groan*...

The involuntarily de-biked Aussie, Walter Brumniach, was on course for a top 20 finish and his age, according to Trackleader, is 50. Silver dots over 60. Grim reapers for the over 70's definitely! Or Yoda's.

My new favourite racer has to be Hugh Harvey. it looks like he was riding with Walter brumniach when he had his accident, accompanied him to the hospital in Rawlins. he then rode backwards about 25 miles to the the scene of the accident to continue his ride. It's gotta be tough losing your riding buddy at this point but it looks like he's determined to finish. go Harvey go!
Thank you, and I'll let him know he has a new fan/follower! Kirsten at Brush Mountain is keeping an eye on his blue dot too and says if he comes through for breakfast she'll take a photo.

Hugh said virtually nothing about what happened, just that Walter had been hit by a 'pickup' right where the spots stopped.
He said that he'd emailed Matt Lee and I assume that's the reason for the loop today. I'm just glad he's feeling able to continue as I certainly would have understood any decision to stop after that. I'm hoping he reaches Brush Mountain Lodge soon. I think he needs a Trail Angel.
Hugh posted on his facebook this morning (Aust East Coast time ...) 'All okay here. Some drama yesterday that has delayed me a day. The weather and good fortune I had been enjoying made me look like a much better cyclist than I am. Original schedule was 21 days. Doesn't matter about where I finish but still have desire to finish this really difficult race. Colorado shortly, that's pretty flat yeah?'
He didn't want to say too much because he wanted to be sure Walter's family knew what was going on.
I hope the surgery goes okay for Walter tomorrow and the rest of Hugh's family and I are certainly wishing him all the best.
Hugh's race won't be the same without him.

Although still showing as active, Walter Brumniach appears to be out. There is a message on his Trackleader page from his family thanking everyone for their support and advising that he'll be having surgery tomorrow.

I cry every time a rider withdraws. Not because they are withdrawing but just because I can grasp the very edge of how hard it must be to have to make that decision.

Has anyone got any info on HH and WB? The spot tracker has not updated for 2 hours.
They should be near Rawlins.
I'm watching and keeping my fingers crossed too. I'm hoping to know more when ES and RS reach Rawlins. Looks like they all stopped together for about an hour, then the other two got back on the road.

I'm +30 on his age and I'm going to make a run for it next year, I just hope I'm not too late!
I cheered when I saw the picture of Larry Hipskind going through Ovando - you haven't left it too late at all!! More Australians to follow next year would be wonderful.

Did he kill it with that knife? Yeah, when you're exerting like that you HAVE to go with whatever sounds good. Eating is hard sometimes.
I strongly suspect the knife is for illustrative purposes only and he ate it with his bare hands. I think he and the other three guys he's hooked up with (Ethan, Robin & Walter) are eating whenever and whatever they get the opportunity. Good luck to them all!

Mrs NH - your post made me laugh! I have (hopefully) attached a photo of my brother and one of the meals he ate on Day 9. He followed it with banana cream pie. Not much help on the 5yr old nutritional front I suspect ...
