Forums / Question and Answer / Re: Current bikepacking shoe options?

I ended up buying a pair of Shimano SH-MT91 Mountain touring boots. I chose these, as I could ride, walk and step out in them, which means I have one boot to pretty much do it all. I found that this is a very comfortable boot to ride and walk in, but have noted one major issue with these boots. They are Gore-Tex lined. Awesome if you step in a puddle, mind blowingly fucked if you step in deeper than a puddle (e.g. A creek crossing for example) or your are caught out in the rain. Why are they mind blowingly fucked you ask, well once water runs down your leg in the rain or comes in the boot when the water is deeper than you expect, it stays in there. For days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yep once wet it takes numerous days to dry them out. Can anyone say foot rot! So what are my options? I could make/buy some ankle gaiters, or I could look for a better boot. Now if they just made a boot, that you can wear out/ride/walk in, that was quick draining/drying, then I may be on a winner.

I have a Lumix TS-4, but it doesn't cut the mustard for me. I am looking at the new Canon G1-X atm to see what that would be like. I have no issues in storing a camera in a waterproof bag.

It has been a couple of years that I can see since people last delved into the 'what camera for touring' thread. I thought that I would start a new thread, as I am on the scout for a camera to take with me.
Now I am particular about what camera I use. So what I am on the lookout for is a camera that: Shoots RAW Manual control settings Reasonable sized sensor (APS or 4/3 would be nice) Reasonably light and compact. Good glass Fast aperture
Other niceties, that would make this camera better. USB recharging Weather, dust, shock resistance.
Anyone have recent suggestions that may meet the above criteria?

hey mac - hope the revolution is treating you well. keep us posted on your experience with big sky international. i really liked a few of their models, i just couldn't pull the trigger. there isn't much out there about them and it would be beneficial to hear what you think. Will do. Can't wait to try it out. Macr

macr237: The Big Sky look to be nice products. It does really bug me that the smaller manufacturers want to piecemeal it out in terms of both cost and weight. The Rev 1 looks to be $370 complete and 2 lbs 10 oz. The BA Seedhouse is the same weight and can be found for over $100 less. I do think the exoskeleton is a superior arrangement in theory, but I haven't used one. I'm not often forced to set-up in the rain but that could be a big plus for those who are. The exoskeleton is what won me over. I have other tents, but they have tent pole tubes (for want of a better description) and they can be annoying to get the poles through, especially when wet.

One of the benefits that I liked about this tent is the fact that the inner is connected to the fly by QR buckles. So to the erect the tent, you clip on the fly to the poles and insert the poles in the eyelets at either and and it is erected. Another benefit is that it is self standing, so no need to find trees to tie it to and if the spot 6' to the left is better, just pick it up and move it.

How a I really hate carrying a backpack but sometimes need a little extra space. the three pockets in my jersey get full pretty quickly and sometimes I just want some extra space for small things like food. I've been experimenting recently with some basic musettes. And a couple I messed around with. I am considering one of the Wingnut gear backpacks. Most likely a Hyper 2.5 or 3.

Does anyone own the latest version of the Big Sky Revolution 1P tent ? It is the double walled variant. I can't seem to find many reviews on the tent. I like the self standing feature, but I am not so sure about how well ventilated the tent is compared to the Tarptent Moment DW. Other thing that I like about it, is the dimensions are larger than the Tarptent. I am interested in hearing about your experience with the tent, especially how well ventilated it is.
