What should I be looking for mtn bike shoe sizing? Do I want a little wiggle room, minimal or alot? What shoes are working for yall around $100 bucks or so? Like to have a shoe that is reasonably comfortable on and off the bike especially for the hike/bike sections. Thanks.....

I like a little wiggle room around the toes and a shoe which can be easily adjusted during a ride to allow more width.  Your feet swell slightly during long rides and a tight fitting shoe can get really uncomfortable after 4-5 hours.  Lake has several models in your price range which are good all around shoes.

I like a little wiggle room also.  And my feet are just a touch wider than normal.  Regular bike shoes are too tight for me, and the only ones I could find in wide are way too expensive, plus they are too wide.  I just got some Pearl Izumi X-Alp shoes, and they fit great.  The fabric gives a little, the soles are fairly stiff but do have some padding like a regular shoe.  So, they're comfortable off the bike.  Overall, I prefer them, and they're in your price range.  Got mine at REI, and there's different models, some lace up and some have the Velcro straps. Try them out, you will probably like them.

The Lake MX 165s I've had for the last year have done pretty well.  Hike well and reasonably stiff.

As for fit, I get the same length and favor the same amount of toe room as I like in hiking shoes (ie, lots).  Heel slippage is not the same deal breaker in cycling shoes as it is in hiking shoes.  A little isn't noticeable unless you plan on hiking in them a lot.
