Hi,

My wife and I are planning to ride from western Colorado to Moab, UT on dirt roads. To take camping gear like a tent and sleeping bags and essential stuff like lots of water, would a trailer be the way to go? It will take a couple days to ride each way and we will likely grab a cheap motel in Moab for a night before heading back.

I have read just about everything on the net on opinions about this, but I want to see if there is any new ideas out there. I am riding a full suspension mountain bike and will tow the trailer if that is the way we go. My wife has a hardtail.

Thanks.
John

If the climbs aren't too steep, and the route isn't too technical, then a trailer should work great.

Something like a Bob should work out fine for a road, or even easy single track ride.

You should be able to easily carry most everything for two people and stay well under the Bob's 70 lbs max.

Have fun.

check out a farfarer trailer.  Hand made by a guy in Santa Cruz.  Seatpost mounted, breaks down for shipping and its about 7lbs lighter that a BOB.  It worked well for me on a trip between Banff and Whitefish on the GD.  The only problem is that it is not mass produced and delivery can take a few weeks instead of a few days.
