forgive the rant. Right now I am very unhappy.

I am leaving on Wednesday for Banff to start riding the TD route on Friday. The bike is ready, I am in good shape and my gear is selected and fine tuned. I've been cleaning the bike up including the new wheelset that I had built to box up and get ready to fly. I have about 200 miles on the new wheelset and the spokes are running good and everything seemed to be running well.

That was until I checked the front wheel built on a shutter Precision PD-8X dynamo hub. I pulled the wheel from side to side and there was a noticeable shift. WTF? Investigating further, the disc brake bearing has considerable slop in it. OMG... Less than 2 days until I fly and my dynamo hub has an issue? Every aspect of the trip has been focused on having a working dynamo hub.

Every time I turn around there is one more hurdle in the way and each seems to get larger. Last Tuesday a dog took me down off of my road bike and luckily all I got was a couple of spots of road rash and bruises.

Can it get any worse?

Last night I had taken the WellGo MG-5 flat pedals off of my bike in preparation of boxing it up this afternoon. The right side was a little hard to get off. This morning, I looked down and there was a sliver of metal sticking out of the crank arm. I pulled on it and a spiral started to pull out.

Back a couple of years ago, I had a pedal strip out and had to drill out the crank arm, tap it oversized and put in a sleeve. It worked very well. Until now.

Luckily back when I had the first problem, I picked up another brand new Deore XT crank set and never got around to selling it. So I have a brand new crankset ready to go on when I get home. All I have to do is swap out some rings.

Oh please great bike gods of karma... no more major trials...
