Front derailleur problem. So I switch from a standard MTB shifter that was on strait bars to a road bike double action shifter, but now I can get my front derailleur to catch all three gears. Any ideas on how to fix this? Are there derailleurs that have better adjustments so I can get this to work or should I just say forget it and change my front crank to a double gear VS triple? Has any one else done this and what was you cure. shifter is a shimano ultegram flight deck and deraileur is a shimano deore m530. This is my bike http://www.bikepacking.net/individual_setups/mark-one-up-for-bianchi/#comments

pretty sure that that mtb and road front deraillers and shifters are not totally compatible. You might get it to work using less cable tension, but loose some trim clicks, but I'm not positive. I had a flat bar cross bike with ultegra cranks and deore shifters and it never worked quite right. But it was years a go. They do make flat bar road shifters, that may work. Sorry that my help isn't so helpful, good luck, jefe

Shimano road and MTB shifters and mechs aren't interchangeable unfortunately; this why you can buy flat bar road shifters for commuter bikes and the like.  You might try using a triple road front mech but I'm fairly sure the spacing of the chainrings is different hence the road/MTB compatibility problems.
If you can use a road shifter, mech and crank combo you'll avoid any problems of any sort (famous last words....)
 Good luck!

I'd try a road triple mech first.  If that doesn't work, either switch to a friction barcon for the front or go to two chainrings.

I've actually heard of a trick you can do with the cable routing to maybe get it working.  On the pinch bolt on the derailleur, instead of running the cable in the little groove, run it on the other side of the bolt.  That supposedly compinsates for the difference in chainring spacing.  Haven't tried it myself, so can't speak from experience.  If you try it, let us know how it works.

As fas as I'm aware that only works for Campy rear mechs. There's more info on it on Highpath Engineerings website (I'm using my phone at the moment, otherwise I'd give you the link).
