Ok so I love my Sidi dominators but after many many miles and years in them not only have both buckles blown up but they are starting to de-sole...... I wish they had life time warranties. I thought about ordering new buckles and straps, and I super glued those puppies and they havent( knock on wood) started to peel again. But with the TD around the corner I'm stuck wondering if I should replace them. Here is my issue......MONEY! Replacing the SiDis is like a plane ticket! I've looked at maybe something cheaper, giro terraduro or shimanos. Any thoughts? I'm just afraid piecing these things together will bite me in the butt in the middle of bf alongside the trail with yogi looking for a snack.....anyone else had issues with gluing the soles back?! And yes I'm a cheap sob but I have to be with two toddlers! Haha

I would not start the TDR with compromised shoes, they're a pretty key piece of gear. Shimano shoes are great, lots of places stock them so see if you can try some on. I had SIDI's last year and switched to Shimano.

I have some pearl izumi shoes, and they're not as good as my sidi's but they're pretty decent and much cheaper. Keep an eye on ebay, every now and then you can catch a pair of gently used sidi's for a reasonable price.

I've had great luck with the Giro stuff (a few different road shoes, Privateers, and Codes). All fit my low-volume foot pretty well. Personally not a big fan of Shimano stuff, but everybody's feet are different. Also haven't had great luck with the Pearl stuff in the past, but I hear it's getting better.

I've going round and round trying to find a new pair of shoes for the CTR...Finally settled on a pair of Terraduros after deciding the BOA system on the Rimes wasnt a good idea. I plan on writing them up once I've got a couple rides in them.

Another for Giro.  I found a pair of Privateers on sale for a great price.  And they're very comfortable on my feet.

I haven't had good luck with the fit of the recent Shimano models, they dig in to my ankle bones too much.  But everyones feet are different and I know guys that swear by Shimano shoes.

I don't know what the question is - but the answer is: Lubrication!

Ya just sucks cause most shops don't have a big selection of bike shoes. Just have to order some and hope for the best!

I just picked up the new Pearl Izumi X-alp Launch and love them. I had to go up 1/2 size from my usual size (I am a 10.5 and ordered a 45) but so far so good. The big toe box is ideal for me since my feet tend to swell on long bikepacking trips. I love clipless pedals on my road bike, but am still on the fence if I like them on my trail bike, but it's not the shoes fault. I have taken these shoes on pure hiking trips just to break them in and simulate CTR type hiking and they do a great job with it. They are relatively flexible but don't give me any hot spots on the bottom of my feet from the cleat so that's good enough for me
