Hey Everyone - newbie bikepacker here, but been cycling for years.
Wondering what folks are wearing for shorts, particularly baggies. I realize the ultra enduro/race types are probably wearing conventional cycling shorts/bibs, but I'm wondering who out there is making decent baggies for longer rides. Anyone got some baggies they really dig?

Prana. I sometimes wear a set of tri shorts with really thin pad underneath. Have lasted longer and are more comfortable than most bike specific baggies I've had.

For bikepacking I wear my mec or icebreaker padded shorts under my Fox indicator baggies.
For bike touring I wear the same padded shorts under Quicksilver amphibian shorts.

I've always worn my generic padded spandex shorts and over them whatever pair of synthetic fiber gym shorts I grabbed first. I've been riding like that for years now and never had an issue, but maybe this isn't the most optimal combo. I'm interested in what other find works best.

This sounds crazy, but I got a few pairs of shorts at Walmart. They are the Ben Hogan brand golf shorts. I really dig them. Oh, and they cost like $10.
I also have a nice pair of The North Face hiking shorts. Did the CT this summer with them. They did not cost $10 but I'd spend the money on them again.

I wear Giro New Road bib undershorts (the genius of a fly on some quality bib shorts cannot be recommenced high enough!)
Over the top I wear a range of Giro or Endura 'baggies', although I personally look for the least baggy 'baggies' I can find.

Its funny... I have some golf gear also. Its cheap... its way over engineered for golf. Its lightweight drys fast and is really tuff. Don't tell anyone though. I don't want all the golf gear at ross to start disappearing!!

I do like many here: cheap, quick-dry baggy over regular cycling shorts. On the road you can have the baggies dry on your rig or skip wearing them. With a decent pair of (gusset crotch) shorts and a good seat, padding is optional.
Bike-specific baggies are highway robbery and not as good as other shorts, IMO. Quicksilver board shorts and Mountain Hardwear are my go-tos.
Hello, industry? We don't need your overpriced, overthought, overdetailed, self-destructing shorts...
