I, as well as many others, had no luck with the First Generation Salsa Anything cage, but the newer metal version and the HD version both look promising.  Just last week I received my Blackburn Outpost Cages and my Salsa Anything Bags and they are a great match.  I really like the design of the Outpost Cage, although it only has two bolt mounting options(which is all I have on my fork, and I do like the three separate height options), to me it looks like a third hole could be drilled for Salsa Forks with 3 bolt mounts.  Feels really sturdy thus far, and I can't see a real weak point in it structurally.

those look pretty cool.
i had good luck with the first gen anything cages, but gave them away when i sold my fargo.
i'm using the hd anything now and happy. haven't really tested them yet, just layers and sleeping pad as my first load, but they are solidly built.

Hi,
The slots on the Blackburn cages (shown with straps passing through) are a good feature.

I ordered the Salsa 1 st Gen Anything Cages, gave them a squeeze, heard welds cracking,  and returned/rejected  them.

Blackburn has been welding tubing for ages, and should have a solid  cage- from the start.

However on the 2nd gen Salsa cages, I drilled a series of small holes which could be finished into a groove, like the Blackburn cages shown.

My  use for these slots (other than straps) is to  hose clamp them to  shock tubes, where there are no threaded  openings in a fork.

Maybe Blackburn already thought of  using hose clamps through these slots?

BTW, the 2nd gen Salsa cages are much better welded, and have had no problems.
The loop at the bottom of Salsa cages will hold an inverted 2 liter pop bottle to carry water, with straps higher up.

Regards,
Jay
