I plan on riding the upper 1/4 of the Tour Divide route later this Summer and am starting to gear up for it. My very well meaning son bought me a 46L dry bag for Christmas. It is a BIG bag. Actually too big for my endeavor. I just wondered what the consensus was for sizes of dry bags. When are they too small and when are they too big? What do you consider considered just right?
I will be carrying a tent, sleeping bag and light tarp on the front bars. I will also have a frame bag and a yet to be built seat post mounted seat bag which is where I'll be strapping down the main dry bag.
There are no right or wrong answers, just looking for some expertise.

My Revelate Visacha seatbag is around 14 liters. I can't imagine going much larger.

It's going to depend on your gear, but many people racing the route make due with an 11 - 13L bag on the front, a frame bag, and somewhere around 13 - 15L of capacity in a seat bag.
