Hi from Norway!
I am thinking about buying a specific bike packing ride. The bike my choice has fallen upon is the Surly Ecr. I am 5.10 with 33" inseam. My current cyklocross/ touring bike has an ETT of 576mm.
But unsure if I should go for the medium or large frame. My gut says medium sized but the local "Experts" said that I should go for a Large size frame.
Any advice is appreciated!

Sounds like you fit bikes like I do - long top tubes. I generally ride drop bar bikes (road, cross, Fargo) shooting for a 56-57cm top tube.
I have a large ECR with a 10cm stem and flat bars. Fits great. Fun trail bike, amazing when loaded down with camping gear.
I'd get the large if you're unable to test-ride both sizes in person, if your current touring bike has a TT of 576mm and you're comfortable on it.

I'm 5'9" with a 30 inch inseam and I ride a medium with a 100 mm stem and Jones loop bars. My road bike has a 55 cm tt with a 120 mm stem. On paper I was sure that the large was the right size but when I sat on a medium it felt great. The size that works for you will probably depend on what cockpit setup you're going to use. If you can't test one and are really stuck, I would go with a large.

If you're on the fence between sizes, consider that the larger bike will hold a bigger triangle bag. I figure my natural size is 20 and ordered a large (20) but built it up before realizing I had received the XL (22). I'm very happy with the XL.
