Brake levers and shifters for Jones Bar

I'm looking to swap out the Woodchipper bar on my Fargo for a Jones Bar. Would like to hear recommendations for brake levers (mechanical disc) and shift levers.

My Surly came with Avid FR5 levers, which seem more than adequate, and Microshift thumb shifters, which I have really grown to love (shift flawlessly, I like the friction shift for fine tuning the FD position, and they take up very little space on the bars).

I have these bars on two of my bikes. Both with BB7, XT levers. Space frame 3x10 with XTR shifters and El Mariachi 1X10 XTR as well.

I tried to buy shifters and brake levers that didn't take up much space, so I could keep as many hand positions as possible. I really just ended up buying a Zee shifter (1x10) with no indicator window and deore hydraulics because they work well. The bike is still set up single speedy, so I don't even know if the hand positions would have been affected, but that was the thought process.

I have the avid speed dial levers and the bolt on it does affect 1 hand position. I need to get something with a hinge or different bolt pattern. Not a big deal as I've been riding it for a couple of years, but on long gravel or road sections I notice and remind myself to fix it...

I just upgraded the bar on my bikepacking bike to a Jones H Bar. I had a flat RaceFace bar before. I am running a 2x10 with Shimano XTR shifters and Avid BB7 brake levers. I went with the BB7 as IMHO it is easier to handle a cable problem than a fluid problem.

I also had some handlebar ends that I slid on before the levers and shifters. It might look silly, but they are a godsend for climbing.

One thing that I found. If you notice, I have an adjustable stem. By adjusting the angle of the stem and the angle of the Jones bar, I was able to get is to where the pressure on my hands was even from one side of the palm to the other. When I wrapped it, I layered a couple pieces of wrap right where my palm fits to give it a mild bulge. The had pressure is really sweet now.

I LOVE the Jones bar.

I have a shimano xt 10 speed bar shifter and FR7 brake levers (with BB7s). Works great on my El Mariachi.

I have the 710mm Jones bars btw. The smaller version works better with thumbies as I understand it. Less room between bar end and cross bar for both brake lever and shifter.

2 years with the Jones bar and still loving it!

I'm moving from Avid FR5 to Deore T610 levers to get a clamp that a.) has a lower profile (no bolts sticking out) and b.) is hinged. I'll let you know how it goes.

I did improve the ergonomics of the FR5 clamp by running the brakes upside down. The side with the protruding allen bolt is now on the bottom.

I'm also switching my Microshift shifter mounts to Paul Thumbies. Again, it's to get a hinged clamp. This will allow me to experiment with shifter placement on the area of the H-bars above the horizontal section - the closed loop portion.

It seems like the real money area of the Jones bar is where the horizontal bar meets the grip portion. I'm trying to free up that space as much as possible.

I have 2 bikes with the Jones bar, and it is the best bar I have ever ridden with.
I have old Hope Mono Minis and Grip shift twisters on one and Hope E-2's with XTR thumb shifters.  Both bikes have the brakes mounted on the grip side of the loop.  The Grip Shift feel easier to use; but not by much.  eithe works great.

With my Salsa Mukluk build I went with Jones H-Bar with Avid Speed Dial 7 brake levers and a SRAM X9 rear shifter lever.
