Hi.  Another one here...well I was an Aussie, but been living in Japan for ten years.   I'm going home to Briz next April so will be looking for bikepacking Adventures in SE Qld at first, and I have a long list of Snowy Mountain adventures waiting for me, so may end up in the ACT.

I think Oz has so much potential for bikepacking, even if the re-supply points are a bit few and far between.

Cheers,

Chris

Oh I don't know, I don't think it's any worse than any other country.  Unless you're going really remote, there's always something within a day or two's ride IMHO.

It's just too bad there's not much in the way of reasonable pre mapped routes.  Perhaps we need to start an ACA for Australia

True, you may be right.  My memory of distances is all from hiking (I hadn't seen the light back then) which makes things a lot tougher.

I'm keen for something Aus-specific.  As soon as I can afford it I'll be getting some kind of GPS toy so I'd love to have a place to contribute.

Cheers,

Chris

There seems to have been a fair bit of interest in that Canberra to Newcastle route I did in August and I'd like to see it grow, both in use and ride quality.   Expect Canberra to Coast (Batemans Bay) to grow I think judging by facebook interest in that (see this months Mountain Biking Australia)...

A few of us have talked about putting routes up and getting the odd grand depart going, but we're all worried about the litigation aspects a little.

the BNT is slowly coming around, but it's not really been targetted towards bikes very well in quite the way that GDMBR has.  I think that's really just a matter of people riding sections, mapping decent alternate routes and submitting them though.  Getting land access is a whole 'nother kettle of fish Smiley

BikePacking in a lightweight and fast sense seems to be building momentum.  I think as more people grow bored of racing enduros and go seeking new challenges you might see more of it.  We really do have an amazing country and a mountain bike I think is an excellent medium to see it with.

Cheers

I'll be riding some of the Hume and Hovell Track (Tumbarumbah to Wee Jasper, then home to Queanbeyan) in mid-December.

I'll gladly contribute to the GPS map site (once I've learnt to track rides).

I think theberm.com would be a good site for a GPS data base, Morgan is a great guy and would be keen to help.
