I bought my dropper post online, so don't really have a "dealer" connection for this question, and tried to call Rock Shock but that didn't work.  Any bike folks out there who know the industry standard about whether I can put my seatpost bag on a rock shock dropper post for bikepacking?  I wouldn't deploy it during the ride but curious if the weight of the bag would effect the dropper post negatively.  Thanks for any input or leads on where I can find this out.

 thumbsup

Just an educated opinion of mine. Probably not a problem unless you and the seatpack gear are approaching any weight limits. It could increase wear of some of the components in the same way as if you were heavier or didn't unload your weight from the seat over bumps.

If you are going on a longer trip you might consider replacing it with a cheap aluminium post just for the knowledge that you aren't wearing out an expensive item and a bit of saved weight. Probably not worth it unless you have a spare post around or get one for cheap.

+1 on black lab's advice to swap it out with a simple post. Why carry the mechanism if it's not going to be used? The extra weight of a medium-size seat bag is inconsequential. If you do find yourself wanting to use a reverb with a seat bag, the dropper stopper made for it is a handy tool to avert tire rub and also to keep your seat up if the unit were to fail.

Thanks for the advice!
This time around, it was a quick fix for a couple of days; didn't want to do anything more permanent.  I checked with a bunch of shops in town, and they said it would be fine as long as rubbing didn't permanently effect the post proper.  Seems like the shop knowledge has caught up too bikepacking since the last time I checked.  I did mount my Pika a little lower on the seatpost than normal so as not to negatively effect the hose coming out of the seat and pumped up the back shock quite a bit to prevent it from smacking the bag.  Worked great!  Sounds like there is a product coming out the help with the dropper post/ seatpost bag relationship.
