Ok, so I want to come out next year with my bikepacking buddies, fall or spring it doesn't matter. We want solid rideable singletrack being the main focus (dirt road connectors are ok). I know it's hard to compare but can you give me (us) a good rundown in the differences? I admit part of my wants to toe the line and race, but in the end I'm more about a good experience outside more than anything.

Of the two the Coco is definitely the easier one to complete. First the the logistics and only needing one car really simplifies things. Also other then Mingus I think there's less HAB over all. In the race format the stages also make things easier. While the 300 has the whole Sonoran Desert and Saguaro cactus thing going for it the Coco has Sedona, both offer up unique scenery and it's a tough call but Sedona is pretty sweet. Overall the North country is easier on tires that's for sure.
Hope that helps.

Easier/harder doesn't really play into my concern too much. I'm more concerned with it being high on the fun factor. I'm only really able to get one trip in during the school year and Coco in the fall and AZT is in the spring, so I need to choose just one. Most likely it'll be one the first year and the other the next year.

I did, which is what wasy swaying me to look into it a bit more. I was hoping you and Scott (when he get's done) and some other folks would also chime in and give me your opinions. If it weren't for that dad-gum Cass and her awesome write up and pics, I'd be focusing on the AZT, but man she got my blood flowing with the description of everything.

Also, if we weren't into wanting to do the Coco stage race, would that next weekend in October be pushing it weather wise? Would late Sept be better?

Cass is a guy. He's British and has ridden self contained all over the world. He just added a link to my photo album on his Coco blog post. You'll see him numerous times in my photos. Gary
