Commuting to work with a computer

So I am working in Illinois but the office is currently moving to indiana where it's about a 50 mile trip each way.
Since I am training for trans Iowa, I thought it would be good to ride down and back one day a week. I have found a way to pack the clothes in my seat bag, I'm not completely sure on where to put my boots, laptop and camelbak. Maybe get a big enough backpack to fit the computer and the camelbak and strap the boots on the back of the bag?

I use a Mission Workshops Vandal and it easily accommodates both 15" Macbook and hightop Keens. It's waterproof (completely . . . not just water resistant), comfortable and I highly recommend it.

Panniers--preferably the dry-bag type from a company like Ortlieb.

Leave your work footwear at work, assuming you have a spot where they won't walk-off.     My old commute was about 10% of your new commute, but I once I got a set of footwear to simply leave under my desk packing became easier.   I also stashed some spare clothes in case I was a bonehead and forgot a clean shirt, underwear, etc.
