Hi all --
First off, I am definitely new to the biking world, but have big goals for learning and travel. About 6 months ago, I purchased a Salsa Vaya 2 -- with plans to tour, eventually tour for a long period of time. I would ideally like to head south through South America - riding down the spine of the Andes. I love my bike, so far, but haven't yet gotten it all rigged up for multi-day traveling (which i hope to do this summer).
I have a few questions about the Vaya 2 versus a bike more like the Salsa Fargo. Am I able to do the dirt road riding I would like do riding South to Patagonia on my vaya? Why or why not?
Thanks in advance for your patient explanations!

The only downside to the Vaya or similar types of bikes is tire size. I presently have 40 mm tires on my Fargo. But I can go larger or smaller. The Vaya does not give you that option. If you think you will stay on good roads you should be fine.

I'd err on the side of caution and go with a Fargo.... You can size down the tires easier on it than you can size up tires on the vaya.
Which is basically what the above poster said....

I plan on a similar trip. Maybe 2015. Keep me in mind as things get closer. Harry
