So surely this would be an easy project.  My old warmers were a pair of sleeves chopped off of an old under armour tight fitting LS wicking shirt.  With those lost somewhere in Baja, I want another pair.  Have used thrift store socks in the past, but those suck when you sweat and want to wear them the next morning in the cold.  Obviously I want some sort of stretchy wicking material, but not sure which to choose.  Anyone have any experience with this or have an idea??

The simplest solution would be wool socks with worn out toes.  I've got a constantly renewing supply of these.  They shouldn't get soaked like cotton and they should dry quickly.  Alternately, I've seen Army surplus wool socks for as little as $3.

Or you could stop being cheap, but that wouldn't be near so much fun.   Wink

I have a pair that are the uppers of blown out Smartwool knee high socks sewn to the uppers of blown out Smartwool calf height socks.  Sew together with a good overcasting stitch and you're all set.

They're my winter arm warmers.

I prefer to just bring a second shirt.  If it is cold enough for arm warmers, I probably want more torso warmth too.  But I also tend to ride with thin long sleeve shirts for versatility and sun protection.

I will add to the old socks plan.  They come in a wide variety of length and weight, and you likely have the raw materials at hand.  Tools needed? scissors.

My favorite pair is made from some old snowboarding socks that I used about 3 times.  The heel hits my elbow perfectly with the toe up towards the shoulder.  Also, the engineered padded parts add wind resistance in just the right places.  as summer is setting in new socks like these are dirt cheep at places like sierra trading post.
