Question for vets and those that have ridden parts of the course. Is it worth using cue sheets and a map case for the TDR. I had Scott at Porcelain Rocket make me a case, and have received the cue sheets and word file from ACA, but as yet haven't spent the time either mounting the map case or formatting and printing the cue sheets.
Are they worth it? I will obviously be using a GPS as my main route finder (garmin etrex 30 for me). Plus I have the ACA maps. If it makes life easier and simpler I will spend the time and effort to get them ready, bu if its just a backup that most people never use I prob won't bother.
Cheers, Nick

Hi there Nick I am looking at participating in the TD 2014 and have researched this but no direct experience. Seems people do use the cue sheets and some re-format them to suit reading on the run and to make them personal (ie fav food stops etc) are you participating this year cheers simon

Thanks for asking the question Nick as I have been wondering the same thing. My thinking is that the cue sheets are a good back up if the GPS stops working, although the ACA maps will do the same. I believe the round the world racers only used GPS for navigation. Im also racing the Transcontinental race from London to Istanbul in August after the TD and I don't think ill be using cue sheets.
My thinking is that the ACA maps will be a good backup if the GPS stops working, but will be a pain in the butt to keep track of. Im thinking of bringing them along with me and if I don't use them Ill through it way in the next town.
Still very interested in what the Vets think.
Mauro

Hi Simon, Feel free to get in touch when I get back. Success or not, I am more than happy to share any info or advice I have. This event is so daunting, advice from vets is essential to avoid rookie traps.

Hi Nick That would be great, look forward to chatting when your back home and to following your progress. I was wondering, do your cue sheets/' maps commence in Banff or do you need to purchase separately? if your to busy to respond or have left no worries , have fun simon off for a ride... cool 9 degrees

Cues are fantastic and incredibly helpful especially if/when you have a computer/speedometer to work with.
