Anyone using a dropper post with a fully loaded seat bag? Which one do you use and are there any issues with it raising back up to height with the weight of a seatbag pulling it down? I think a dropper could be super convenient for bikepacking as long as you have enough rear clearance to make use of it

I use a Kind Shock post for bikepacking and have used Gravity Dropper and Specialized Command in the past as well. 4lbs is the max load I have used. Post returns at normal speed at that load. I dont think all riders would benefit but most would. Slower climbers are ideal for the drop post. They (we) benefit from the energy saved on the DH. Super fast fit types who ascend really well and are pretty good high post DH riders may not see any reason to use one. Even that mindset is changing though as a dropper post has a legit strong finish in a bikepacking race now.
Clearing the tire with stock seatbag offerings is another story. So is getting full post drop with the seatpost attachments most bags have.

I've tried fitting on to my bikepacking bike. Alas, my legs are pretty short, so I don't have a lot of clearance for my seat bag to begin with.
But if I could fit one, I'd use it!

I have had success with the gravity dropper and the old revelate viscacha (2 seatpost straps), but it wasn't ideal. Getting it back up required pulling the seat up. Rich of Crater Packs out of telluride makes a seat bag specifically for use with a dropper post.

Stock bags usually will not work. I made my own as there were no offerings in 2012. I know at least one other bag maker is doing dropper compatible as I have seen a pic here of another on Mike Curiaks Lenz 29+.  |

Here's my solution:  Untitled by gabriel amadeus, on Flickr Just got a KS post as the GD pretty much sucks, but haven't tried it out yet. Not many options for the krampus 27.2 size. Depending on the seat height it's REALLY close to the wheel in the lower position. |

I've used a Speci Blacklite with a full medium-sized seat bag with success. I leave the post velcro attachment loose at the bottom and put around 10 lbs extra air in the post.
Just having it drop is the main benefit, IMO; not a deal breaker to help the dropper back up with a hand or thigh clench.
