Hammocks, who knows the ups and downs of it?

hammocks? any body used one extensively in bad weather?
I was thinking of switching to a hammock, Apparently I
would have to order sight unseen. I live in Oregon, it rains a
lot here. Would they work as a bivy during a storm, or high wind?
It's not always safe to camp under a tree.

Been in 2 t storms here in the NE woods in mine. 2 hours or so of wind rain etc. Stayed dry and cozy. Stock Hennessy. Would love to upgrade to a larger and lighter tarp someday for a bit more coverage and piece of mind in the wet... But no issues thus far.

I've been a hammock user for about 3 years now. Hammockforums.net is the best resource for info. While not the absolute lightest set-up (though mine is in the SUL, but cost money) it can be done for cheap and still be light.
I've been in one in a strong storm. The only issue I really had was having to adjust the rain fly because it was catching so much wind. Wasn't to concerned about things falling on me at all. If I heard some cracking I might just move spots or something.
LOT'S of different makers out there.

another user here, not a thunder storm but certainly a deluge of biblical proportions last time i was out using the stock fly on a hennessey and was fine but have a larger hex fly now and plenty happy.
not ultralight but ultra comfy!!!(more so than a sleeping mat, bivvy bag and a sleeping bag)probably about an extra 500g to bivvy bag setup.
borrow one if you can and i can promise you'll not look back.

I hammock all the time. Definately go to hammockforums.net - they have everything you could possibly want to know about hammocks.
Hammocks are mainly for hot weather but you have to have insulation when it drops to 60degrees. The best part is being hanging anywhere there are 2 trees approx. 12feet apart.
I have a Hennessy and replaced the tarp with a larger one (JRB) or sometimes use an Equinox silnylon poncho which covered me in heavy downpours.
Comfort & a night of great sleep is more important than weight. Besides you are not carrying it on your back so a few extra ounces don't matter.
