MY favorite tire on my Fargo (miss that bike) was the WTB Vulpine.

I am pretty sure @RonK discusses his tyre choices in this thread at the Australian Cycling Forums. Might be worth a search.

My Fargo has been relegated to commuting duty. I've got a set of Schwalbe Marathon Supreme 29 Inch tires that have served me well for thousands of miles. They don't offer much traction off road, but are great on road and really really don't get flats. Make sure you maintain the proper tire size. I once used the bike with 35c tires and was very disappointed. The handling changes dramatically and the bike was designed for 2" tires or more.

No longer available as far as I can tell but use the 2.1 Vulpines for gravel with a lot of asphalt in between.  Although probably wider than needed for the road I like the cushy feel and can get them rolling very fast when on the road and as stated above they maintain the proper geometry of the bike

I have found the Soma Cazadero to be a good allrounder on my Fargo. Rolls nicely on sealed roads and has good edge grip and enough flotation to work well on gravel.

Read what Guitar Ted has to say about them.

I've been running WTB riddler's (45mm) this year.  Gravel ride/race in Plumas national forest (California) of 92 miles and the riddlers were great.  Run them tubeless.  Use them on my specialized Sequoia for pavement, dirt, gravel, single track.  I am intrigued with the cazadero and my try them later.  Guitar ted says they run slightly less than 50 and my Sequoia maxes out at 47, so they might work.

Gravel ride/race in Plumas national forest
You got a Plumas route I can click on?

My Fargo has a 2,25 WTB Nine Line on the front, and a 2.1 WTB Nano on the back at this time.  This could be better for less road and more gravel.  The Small Block 8, is good for people who want to get off the road for a while, but have to get back on the road.  Like the Vulpine, the Small Block 8 sucks if it gets wet.

Here is the link to the event:  http://www.lostandfoundbikeride.com/

It is a fundraiser for trails.  I enjoyed it this year and it is very scenic.  Very well supported.

I've found the riddler to do well in wet or dry.  it is not a mud tire, but it is not intended for mud.  I will likely try the nano someday.
