No experience with the Ardent, but it looks aggressive. Ardent race might be a faster roller. I ran the Maxxis Ikon last year and wouldn't hesitate to use it again. You really don't need much for tread on the TD route. A few years back, I ran the Specialized Renegade and if they hadn't recently changed it to what I hear is less reliable, I'd run it again.

Fast touring both times. Not packed as light as a racer, but not super heavy either. The Icon was very durable.
Rode them from Banff to Lincoln last June, then the rest of the MTB session and they still look good now. Look for something that is fast rolling, while giving you decent flat protection (I run tubeless).

I did a bikepacking tour last year over mixed surfaces on 2.1” Vittoria Mezcals, mounted tubeless. They were very fast rolling on sealed roads and had good grip on gravel. And they are showing little wear after around 3000 km.

I'm going to be trying Continental Race King Protections this year. They worked well for Brian Lucido last year and Mike Hall the year before that.

Maybe a little late on this forum, but we see a lot of Maxxis Ikon and Ardent Race, 2.25 & 2.4 come through working well.
Based on what we've seen, Continental Race King Protection 2.2 seem to be the fastest/very durable choice.
All these are typically run on front or dual suspension bikes. A 2.25 tire run on a rigid fork is harsh...

Vittoria Mezcals FTW... I used to run WTB Nanos, but the Mezcals blew them away. They are the only tire that I use when bikepacking.
