Welcome to the club!

It took a few... years, but the only thing left is the weird bump.

Now your purse won't slide off of your shoulder. It does get less painful over time but unless you work with your arm over your head (think construction worker) it is manageable. All my DR buddies strongly advise against surgery but cortisone shots may help.

The doc at the ER told me any dreams of being an Olympic gymnast were essentially over, but I've been rock climbing pretty darn frequently with no problems - that's mostly movements with your back, but there's always things like mantling.

I shy away from bench presses these days (or gyms, and weights in generally because: outside!) But doing dips seems OK, as long as I don't overdo it. You may have to figure out what you personally can/cannot do. There's a lot of PT you can do to strengthen your rotator cuff that could help.

I just read your blog - small world. I have ridden part of the HCM Trail on a mountain bike, I have been in a bicycle accident in Viet Nam and my shoulder looks like yours. I was rear ended by a really drunk cyclo driver outside of Da Nang and learned about the Vietnamese code that "big pays little" when in an accident. Seems like no matter who's was wrong, thats the code. The HCM Trail was a real experience and I can't wait to go back. Are you doing the whole thing?

Yup, As Ranger said more club members.  Did it 20 years ago mtbing in boonies,   became astronaut going over bars, hit right side.  Had to reverse brake levers for rear brake  on left side, then make sling with polypro top and diaper pins, load up in Vit I.,  ride long way out.   Many years later it turned out that the separation had caused a bone spur wearing down rotator cuff tendon,  finally tearing while  WW kayaking.    Bone spurs can be repaired much easier than a torn rotator cuffng  tendon.   In Colorado there is an awesome shoulder doc, Paul Abbott.    Good as new now, with shoulder exercises.

Hope you  recover well.

Cheers,
Jay
