I want to send pictures and notes by e-mail to relatives while I am touring. I think a netbook is what I need that is wifi enabled to use free wifi.  I need pointing in the right direction as of what to buy.  Something with a canny battery life and cheap.  Oh and a SD/USB slot for uploading photos.   I am very cheap so contract phones are out.  Whatever I get must be a one off payment.

Netbook and ultralight don't really belong in the same subject line.
But, I'll play.

If I were world touring or cross country touring I'd likely use my iPad, add a camera kit for snagging photos off an SD card, and my G12.

Or get one of the new iPods, they've update the camera in those I think. Wifi, apps, ability to email.

You can get pay as you go iPhones.

Or maybe the Samsung camera, of you can get it without a mobile contract:

Or the Nikon?

Or the Samsung galaxy note?

Really depends on what you want to do.
