That's usually about when the Colorado Trail Race runs. Afternoon t-storms are rather common in the mountains, but August is generally not too cold (esp compared to right now). Do it!

Early August is probably the best time to ride the CTR. High-elevation snow will be gone, but the days are still long. Afternoon thunderstorms are likely, but not guaranteed. Temps can drop in the 30s at night, so bring enough warm and dry gear.
