I got myself a CDW handlebar bag and saddlebag about a week and a half ago and have been tooling around on some little shake down rides...reviews to come on those.  Between them and my Camelback Mule type backpack, I'm managing to carry everything I need, but I'd like to get a little more weight off my back and have a little more room for unexpected things (right now, everything is stuffed).  So I'm investigating small frame bags, but honestly don't want to drop the $ now for a custom one.

So I Googled up frame bags and came up with a few inexpensive ones, to my surprise.  Any one have any experience or opinions on any of these?

The Jandd is excellent, you cant go wrong with it. They are well built, I used one for years before the zippers died.

I picked up the Jandd bag you list for cheap, they have it under 'sale items' for about $20 in different colors if you dig around the site.  Haven't really used it yet, nice bag, quality construction, but the shape isn't 100% compliant with the El Mariachi....frame gets tight at the headtube and the bag crunches up in that area.  Need to tinker with it some more.....

Eric, knowing your "experience" with packs, I'm impressed by your comment.  Thanks.

Tomi, could you do me a favor and get a couple measurements on it?  I'm curious how long and tall it is.  A picture of it on your frame would be super cool too, but no problem if either are too much trouble.

I used the Jandd bag in years past:

It did the job, but didn't fit well when I graduated to full suspension.  So I got a custom one.

If the Jandd fits, it's a good solution.

Yep another vote for the Jaand. I have a bigger custom one now but the Jaand works as a lone or for shorter races/rides. Heck I even have it on my road bike right now I think Smiley Awesome bag for the money.

If you carry so much weight in a backpack you need a frame, you may be carring too much stuff. Try getting larger panniers or a front rack.

Nerd alert!  In your road bike huh Chris?  Good thing you're so fast I don't have to ride next to you! +10 on the Jandd frame pack here.  Perfect size for the stuff you need to get to quick.

Yea Probably dorky but Marni has been doing a lot of long rides and so I've hauled extra food and water so we don't have to stop anywhere. Smiley

Some strange contraption that you use on really hard surfaces. Kind of like car but you have to pedal them. :p

Let's see...

Some talk about Fred and his skinny tires, and 4 out of 4 votes for the Jandd.  It's ordered.  Thanks all.

Yes and if the budget keeper was still asleep at the purse strings I'd go with one Wink  Though one of Eric's basic ones isn't a ton more $ than a generic Jandd.  If you're starting from scratch, I'd get ahold of him.
