just got my first frame pack and it rubs slightly on the insides of my legs. is this common with frame packs? I have not had a chance to ride it without leg warmers so I am not sure if it is going to cause irritation

I would say it is not normal. I have 2 and sold another and only an occasional rub. Have you filled it? If not, it willprobably get worse as the bag expands. Some bags have Velcro inside tonexpand or contract the width. If yours doesn't, they could be added.

Even if you don't have internal velcro to compress the bag, you can try tightening up the velcro straps that attach to the frame. This will tighten the side panels. If they're already as tight as they can be then the bag might be too big for your frame.
If the straps are straight velcro then you can trim them with scissors after you do that. If they're velcro sewn to something else you might have to sew and/or heat seal edges afterwards.

What frame pack do you have? What is the width (from the manufacturer)? Are you packing it so it bulges out?

Another thing to take into consideration is how you pedal. I've had customers that pedal with knees very inward, and that simply doesn't work so well with frame bags. But, as mentioned above, how you install the bag is quite important and does affect the shape of the bag.

Nope, just a wide person, even before I put the extra 50 lbs on. When riding paved trails I tend to use the outer half of the pedals and knees outward. Not very aero, but more of a workout. We all can't be TDF skinny riders, |

You know, in all seriousness, you oughta look into iSSi pedals. They offer different spindle lengths - normal, +6mm, and +12mm. Normally used for winter footwear, but in your case you might just like 'em all the time!

being a novice and old school, I prefer simple platform pedals, but knowing there are wider options and I was planning on upgrading the stock pedals on my Trek 3700....
Only money right?
