I made the 'mistake' of purchasing a scale and now I realize how much I have been lugging around on pannier and BOB tours.  I have my base weight down to 15 lbs and this 8oz shock pump is looking mighty heavy.  Do I really need it for a 3-6 day tour?  If I blow a seal on my rear shock the pump won't help and the tour is basically over anyway.  What do you experts think?

try a solid strut. When riding a FS bike on long rides i will take a lightweight solid strut to replace the shock if it goes south. Sometimes lighter than a shock pump and more reliable. I bet if you get creative you could somehow make it into a dual purpose tool, like a liquid fuel container, or dry storage for matches, money ect... Never weighed the ones i have made in the past but i a guessing 2-6 oz depending on what tools you have at your disposal.

Best O Luck

I'm using the Toepeak MicroShock.  Very light since it has no gage.  Seems to work OK.  If I had a leaky fork or shock that needed constant attention I wouldn't take it, but for occasional use it good enuf.
