Ok, so I took the plunge and bought one.  I have the E-trex 20.  I have a Macbook Pro so that means I guess I can't use Topofusion which sucks because I hear awesome things about it.  I need help though.  I downloaded Garmin Basecamp and wanted to create a simple route around my neighborhood to practice following the line.  Well, none of the streets in my hood show up.  Only major streets.  Does this mean I now have to spend another $70ish dollars to by street maps?

I have other questions regarding creating a route on dirt, but I'll get to that later.

Here's my method (probably not the most efficient, welcome to suggestions)

Get your base maps from here for free: http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/

Use mapmyride.com to create a route, then export the GPX route.

Import the GPX file in basecamp and sync.

this site is awesome...desert southwest map is a good one!
You can also draw a route google earth, save the file to your computer then open with basemaps.
