I'm seriously considering purchasing a BA Encampment bag & Insulated Air Core pad for outings in the mid 20's to low 30's & wondering if anyone has had experience with these & the actual temp ratings (they're both rated at 15 degrees)

I've read all the reviews on both of them at Backcountry.com & all seem very positive, maybe not the lightest & most compact but I'm more concerned about bang for the buck in my price range & these are in my price range compared to most others.

Also, is side sleeping pretty much out with this set-up? I tend to snore like a bear on my back, or so my wife says!

I have the insulated air core pad and the Fish Hawk bag. Pad to 15 bag to 30. Love the system so far - but only 1 cold trip in it. Temps down to 21 and I was fine with wool layers on in the bag. Was not in a tent or bivy so no microclimate around me - just in a lean to trying to stay out of the wind. With the pad slid into the bag I was able to side sleep just fine. You'll need to check the shoulder girth measurement to see if it will work for you.

I'm a hammock hanger - so I bought the system to keep my pad and bag together and to offer flexibility for going to ground.

What hammock are you using with that?  I'm a hanger too.  It was interesting hearing about your other trip and how you said you slept ok on the ground.  I did the same 2 weeks ago and slept terrible (even with the thick Neoair pad).  Love me some hammocks.

I have a Hennessy of some sort. Not the ultralite stuff - exped asym I think. I bought the BA system so I had something versatile. I have yet to use it in my HH - but mocked it up inside. Looks like it will work just fine. In warm weather I can use the BA bag as a quilt. In cooler use the whole mess inside.
Sleeping on the ground was rough. The lean to was not level or even pitched to the opening - it was pitched back into the wall where I setup my head. I had a hatd time getting comfy. I also use 2 big pillows at home - so something else I need to adjust but I had on all my clothes - it got pretty cold for the gear I had with me. I prefer to hang - but feel confident with a bivy or tarp (not out east though!) I could make ground dwelling work.

Hammocks out for me as I'm 6' 5" & we have a HUGE shortage of trees in a lot of places I go (Nebraska Sandhills) I've got a cheapo 1 man tent I'm going to start out with until I can afford a BA 3 wire bivy or the Seedhouse SL2 as the 1 man Seedhouse is just too cramped for my Clydesdale build. Not sure if I can handle a bivy either unless I'm going fast & light which won't be the case in most instances.

sounds interesting, I'll check it out but I still have some spots I want to go where there isn't a tree for 30 miles so thinking I'll still invest in a ground shelter. The bigger hammock sounds good though as I've never been in one that was long enough for me, might be an option someday if I'm traveling in an area with trees.
