So I found a nice deal on a used HCx and really like it so far. I would like to mount it on the stem or bars but I've found several brackets. Could I get some insight on what works and what doesn't? (no need to re-invent the wheel) Thanks in advance for the advice!

For stem:

Very solid.
My stem has a very slight taper, so I used a bit of contact cement to keep it from slipping and getting loose.

I've used the standard Garmin handlebar mount for thousands of miles.  It works pretty well, with the exception of some GPS's want to shut off under certain kinds of vibration.  I think it's an internal GPS issue, but the type of mount may have something to do with it as well.

I've never lost a GPS with it, but others have, so some people tether the GPS to the bars for additional security.
