Anyone running H Bars? How are you setting up your shifters and brake levers? Do you like them?

I've run the ti H-Bar for years on my SS. I recently put a titec version on the SS and put the ti H-Bar on my geared full suspension bike. I run the XTR integrated brake/shifters so only had to mount one component forward of the bar/grip intersection. I wish I would have done this years ago as it makes this bike much more comfortable. the jones web site also shows some geared set ups with thumb shifters. I think any traditional trigger shifters would be difficult to get set up correctly.

Too funny! This will be the first geared bike I've built in a long time. I am having the frame built with sliding dropouts so I have options.

I'm going to try and run SRAM X-9 triggers. I dislike Shimano so much I would probably change the bar before I switched from SRAM. I've seen some pictures on the web of H Bars set up with triggers and they look awkward, just wondering if anyone here had any experience with them.

like em so far, ended up flipping them upside down. haven't got long long rides on em (more than 3 hours), and the ergons are going to come off when i feel like taping.
currently running the bike tringlespeed, so i have a thumb shifter on the left for moving a front mech... 22,32,44 turning an 18t with a paul melvin for pulling the little one around.

As far as comfort goes I like my Titec H-bars.  The sweep is good, and with the Ergons I can ride all day (3x100+ mile gravel cruises) w/o a problem.  The one problem I do have with them is not being able to place the brake levers on the outside part of the bar.  While I haven't had any problems with the setup the way it is, I'm afraid that I'd have trouble reaching the brakes while tackling serious singletrack.  I suppose I could cut down the Ergons, but I can't quite bring myself to do it yet.

This is my Pugsley by the way, set up w/ Deore brake levers and Suntour shifters, which I use on gravel, moderate singletrack, and snow (of course).

I run my brakes on the main portion of the bar and have my thumbshifters on the horns, which I cut down to functional stubs (long enough for mounting the shifters) so my pogies would fit better...Funny, I was recently evaluating switching from double-wrapped bars to ergons...just didn't figure their designed-ergonomics would work as well on H / swept bars...you like them on h bars though...hmmmm...

I have a Titec H bar. And I am using X9 shifters on it.

I used the matchmaker XX system to get the shifters on the main bar portion. Works like a charm altough you have to learn how to use it.

I had not seen the Matchmaker XX's before, looks like I'll have to order them since I thought that would be the best place to run the shifters but didn't know how to do it. Thanks!

I had the same problem when I went with a geared setup. Settled on the Shimano Dual Control shifters and quickly remembered why I went SRAM a few years ago. Still, it did the trick.

I had considered using the SRAM match maker to get some X9 shifters and Juicy 7 brakes going on the bars but from looking at multiple pics on the net it didn’t seem like it would jive. Looks like if you separate the shifter from the brake via the matchmaker bracket you can at least get the shifter mounted. Nice work DidaDunlop!

i am using an alfine trigger shifter with the h-bar. at first i really didn't like it. i couldn't wrap my meatmitts around the grips with out the triggers getting in the way. so i cut them down. now it is great!
