Hammock Users - help?
«

I'm after purchasing my first hammock after years of sleeping on the floor.
Got the choices down to either a Hennessy Ultralight Backpacker or the Hennessy Ultralight Explorer.
Problem is i'm exactly 6 foot tall. (well under the weight limit for both - so no problems there)
So do i buy the lighter and cheaper Hennessy Ultralight Backpacker which is rated up to 6 foot tall
or
Do i buy the more expensive and heavier Hennessy Ultralight Explorer rated up to 7 foot tall.
Which will give me a comfier nights sleep? Will i only just fit the Ultralight Backpacker and will it be cramped so less comfy?
I prefer the lighter and cheaper option if its just as comfy........

If I'm comparing the correct two hammocks, you're really only looking at a 3 - 5 oz difference so I'd put more emphasis on comfort and go with the longer hammock.
I weighed much the same options when I bought my hammock (SkeeterBeeter Pro). The skeeterbeeter just fit me at 5'10". The Pro was several inches longer. I opted for the Pro to allow me a flatter lay. My son has the skeeterbeeter and I can really feel the difference when I use it compared to my Pro.
The SBPro is not asymetrical so I don't know if Asym hammocks accommodate a flatter lay in a shorter hammock

Go long...you there other places on the hammock you can shave the weight back off if you are concerned about that.

Definitely go with the longer one. In the long run, you'll be glad you did.
As another option, check out
Warbonnet Outdoors
. Take a look at the very popular
Blackbird hammock
.
And, of course,
HammockForums.net
.

I'm just over 6" and originally went with the lighter ultralight backpacker ... found I couldn't quite get comfy ... ended up trading it in for the longer Ultralight Explorer. I'd say go long and don't worry about the tiny bit of weight.
Oh yeah and the Hennessey folks were fantastic - I sent them my old one (used a handful of times) and they traded me straight up, no extra charge - awesome customer service.

I second Jerry's recommendation for the Warbonnet Blackbird or looking into other options at Hammockforums.net. There are a lot of cottage manufacturers out there that are making stuff that I find more appealing than the Henessey offerings, like the UK Hammocks Woodsman X and the Tree to Trail Switchback. I use a WBBB and a Traveler and find both to be very lightweight and supremely comfortable. I am 6'3" tall.
