Hello, I'm wondering if anyone knows or has experience with outfitting a Salsa Fargo with Surly Knards/Rabbit Holes. I know that up front things work out but I'm wondering about the rear wheel. Is it possible to squeeze in a 3" tire? If not does anyone know what max size a Fargo can fit in the rear? Thanks much - just doing some brainstorming for winter

I have a Fargo and I doubt it, and certainly not with much mud clearance. I can measure my frame later if you want.

I finished the 2013 TD. I did the whole damn thing, excluding the 2013 detours, in good style and—as far as I know—totally in accordance with the rules.

Not even close on my 2008 Fargo. The RH/Knard doesn't even fit in the fork of the 2008 model, although apparently it does in newer forks.

Good to know, I didn't think so but was curious. Anyone know how big you could practically go with a rear tyre on a 2012 model?

Salsa's site says 29 x 2.3 for the 2012/2013 models. The first gen frame was spec'd to take a 2.4" max size.

I have Rabbit Holes and 2.4 Racing Ralphs on my 2012 Fargo.. Obviously room for the Knard up front but couldnt go much bigger then the 2.4 in back without rubbing, maybre 2.5? The Racing Ralphs look sweet and ride well, the Rabbit Holes spread them out nicely.

Shilman - so you are running the 2.4 on rabbit hole in the back? What is the advantage if running this rim in the back if you can't put the larger tires on?
Very intrigued about the setup - do you have a pic?

I think the Rabbit Holes benefit any wider tire, they make the Racing Ralphs pretty big in comparison to if they were mounted on a regular sized rim. And yes, I'm running the Racing Ralphs on both front and rear.
I dont have a pic, but I'll go take one and try and post it up for you...

This is becoming more and more popular. What happens is that the volume inside of the rim allows the tire to push out more, effectively widening a tire. This additional volume also allows tires to be run at lower pressure increasing the contact of the tire on the ground. I want to run Rabbit Holes on my 29er as I build it up. I also want 23mm rims for my Cross-Check (looking at the Pacenti PL23s over the Velocity, lighter and seem better machined). Here are some good pics of 2.4's on Rabbit Holes thanks to Whileoutriding http://www.whileoutriding.com/gear-reviews/gear/carradice-supper-c-saddlebag-back-to-front-reviewNone are specific to the tires, but you can get an idea of how it goes.

Ah that makes sense. This is great info and sounds like a nice way to make the Fargo a bit fatter.
Thanks for all the answers!
