With the race coming up in April and the distance about 340...is there any need to bring a replacement chain or a new derailleur hanger? Somehow I can see the chain at that distance but not the hanger.

Anyone cover a distance and need that extra gear?

Thanks

No need to carry either.  Bring chain lube and a brush to clean the drive train.  Depending on the conditions, dry or wet, a happy drive train will get you to the end.  I would recommend a couple sets of quick links should you break a chain.  As for a spare hanger I do carry one, not much weight, but reality is that more than just a hanger is needed to get up an running.  Do start the race with a refreshed drive train,  more than likely you will wear out the drive train just by training alone.  If you do replace before the race makes sure you have a few miles the new drive train.

I agree with everything Striker said. Amount of chain cleaning and lubing you will need will depend on the road and weather conditions. I started with a clean and well prepped driveline last year and didn't do anything to it the entire race. However, it was bone dry the entire race, even the B roads. This is an even year. Rumor has it that means the weather could be epic.
