I might have to give it a go over the Christmas holiday.  I tried one a year ago and just couldn't get it figured out.  I have CDW handlebar and seatpacks and am very happy with it, but wouldn't mind trying to do something myself.  I took a sewing class at Jo Anns a year ago and that really helped me.  Man, being patient isn't my strong suite and sewing definatley needs that!

Thanks for the info, DaveB! I've been trying to find a source for Dim-Poly's diagonal fabric but without any luck. Now to find some Spectra-reinforced rip-stop in colors other than black..

Sherpa, I'd be happy to lend any help for your project. I'm in Austin too and have a couple industrial sewing machines with a lot of mil-grade fabrics, webbing & hardware. I'd like to build up a complete pack system for my bike soon.

Village, let me know when you get around to doing that.  I'd love to come over and get some help.  I've got basic sewing skills but would need guidance on some of the trickier parts (putting in zippers for one).

Hey, I've noticed that Topeak has an entire range of Bikepacking bags.....is it worth getting a few of those initially for overnighters, or is it worth plopping down for the more handmade boutique jobs?

I would stay away from Topeak. Have had their bags and also bike pump and they are junk. Would never buy another product from them again.
