Cheap and rugged aren't usually used in the same sentence when describing camara's haha
We had gone though quite a few backcountry point and shoots. We are really happy with the Nikon AW130.
We use it mountain biking, bikepacking, multiday white water canoe and rafting trips, backpacking and just general purpose. Even when collision and drowning aren't on the agenda it gets used a lot because it survives airborne sand and grimy hands better that anything we've used.
We destroyed several 'buget' point and shoots and lost lots of good trip pic's before we coughed up coin for a good camara :- )
This the one we have, but they have a less expensive, but no less rugged version of it as well, It just has less features. In retrospect, we likely would have been very happy with the less expensive one, but we were tired of throwing away $100 buget camara's because it cost more to fix them than they were worth.
