Hi, I've never bikepacked before. I got to this side after reading an article in Mountain Biking magazine; but before I had read it I had chatted with a friend about flying to California and bikepacking a route north to south. (I live in Massachusetts). Before jumping into a huge trip like that, I want to try it out here at home. Anyone know where I can do this in New England, with access to campsites along the way? Thanks!!!

Are you looking for road or offroad routes?

If you're just looking for an easy intro to overnight trips by bike, these might be a good option near you:

MA

NH

VT

Spend some time figuring out where there's a bunch of them that you can link with small road sections in between if necessary. I've ridden quite a few Rail Trails, and they've always been pleasant, scenic and easy. They make great corridors of 'solitude' in a heavily populated place like the mid atlantic and new england. If you're up for a drive(or road ride) to get there, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania have some really long ones that are easy to connect.
