What are the rules in CA and the US on kids going into bars specifically in the states that the TD passes through?

Each state has its own laws on alcohol purchases and consumption.  Most, (if not all) states have a drinking age of 21 y/o.  Some states used to be 18 y/o.  In CA, you can generally bring kids in to the bar if the bar also serves food.  You can't sit AT THE BAR though, you have to sit at a lounge table or booth.

Alcohol is fairly easy to purchase in CA when compared to some other states.  Beer, wine and spirits can be purchased at liquor stores and most grocery stores in CA, 7 days a week, 6am to 2am.  Some states, like Utah, you can only purchase spirits and full strength beer at their state run liquor stores.  Other states have restrictions on the days/hours which alcohol can be purchased.

CA is the commonly used abbreviation for the state of California.  I think I misinterpreted your question.  Sorry for the irrelevant response :-)

I really don't think any one is going to refuse you service for having your minor child with you. Assuming that is where we are going with this. Found your blog http://minipips.blogspot.co.uk/ am I correct in assuming the wee man wants you to ride TD?

Not sure about CA the country but here in the States we're all 21 now thanks to the feds, kids used to die driving across state lines for liquor, used to be some were as low as 18 next door to states with 21 as the age limit. As stated any place that serves food along with spirits will let you bring the kids into a dining area. Only a rougher type establishment is going to have a no minors policy, and you would likely have to go looking for those.

That's awesome! I can't see you having any trouble with bar and grill type refueling stops. We do have stricter laws then the UK but it's more about keeping drunk kids alive then stopping parents from taking the kids out for dinner.
