Hello, Community,
QUESTION: WHAT IS THE VERY BEST FRAME (new or, hopefully, USED) for the ultimate in modular, multi-modal flexibility, for touring, cargo and trail options ? ... I want the options of fenders, disc or robust center-pull brakes, wider tires, NO SHOCK-SUSPENSION (can replace front fork) ... I also want the ultimate option of a dual-hub electric drive system, at some point. This must be based on 26" wheels with wider tires. I have a 32 inch inseam and would like ~2" of clearance, between frame and crotch. I am going for max loading and max options, for various configs.
Keep in mind that I am 53 years old and nearly 300 Lbs (ATM ; ) ) ... but, I want to do this anyway.
This SIX PART SERIES IS THE INSPIRATION FOR THIS BUILD
I want to build an ultimate multi-mode cargo & touring bike for Central Texas backroads & trails.
I currently own a ~1991 Miyata Triplecross with 700Cx48mm tires and upright seating position. It has eyelets for a rear rack but not for disc brakes (OLD bike) ...
What I want to do is to build an ultimate multi-modal urban cargo and cross-country "bugout" pack bike ...
... I want this bike to be based on 26" wheels and to do an XTRACYCLE FREE-RADICAL TRUCKER BUILD.
I have several 90 LITER PACKS as well as USGI/IMSS Mil-Spec Modular Sleep System.
My financial situation is not stable and I could become urban-homeless, at any tiime.
I do nort own a car.
I would like to be able to travel ~ 25 miles, in a day, with a full (120 Lb?) load (more if practical).
My pack, fully loaded for winter expeditions averages ~60Lbs to ~80Lbs (wet). I want to be able to carry 5 gallon buckets and 5 gallon gerry cans ... perhaps londer items, such as an 8 foot ladder, in a severe pinch.
I need a fram that can take center-pull AND disc brakes (either/or) I want to run LARGE disc brake, rear, and carry parts to re-rig, in the field, with robust center-pull ("V") brake ... Maybe just by switching the cable ?
Would like a used frame, to build upon ... want the MOST mounting options for disc brakes and racks (front and rear) .
I REALLY need to find a configuration and components that are truly comfortable enough for longer hauls (between cities).
THIS APOCALYPTIC BUGOUT DISCUSSION BEST DESCRIBES MY AIMS ...
Any help, instruction, or insight or sources and references would be much appreciated.
