I'm trying to plan ahead for the fall of 09.  I teach so I'm very limited on when I can actually travel.  Is Mid November going to be to cold to do a trip on the AZT 300?  I'm thinking the week of Thanksgiving.  Otherwise it won't be until March of 2010.  I'm thinking a 4 day trip for the whole 300.

Sorry for digging up an ancient thread, but I figured I'd post here first before creating a new one. I'm looking to speed tour the AZT 300 November 21 - 25 this year. I'd like to go for the AZT 750, but in my field of work, getting time off to go for it at a comfortable pace is difficult. So my game plan is to split the AZT into two separate trips. The first being from the U.S./Mexico border to Superior and the second being from Superior to the AZ/UT border.

I'm still very much a rookie in the bikepacking game. I've got a few trips under my belt (CTR, Coco 250, and some stuff on the Kaibab Plateau), so I'm not completely in the dark and I know my abilities.

sherpaxc,

Did you end up doing this over Thanksgiving in '09? If so, how'd it go? If not, any interest in giving it a go this year? By the way, I met your buddies Keith and Jackson out on the Coco 250 this year. I got to put in some miles with Keith, who is a solid rider, might I say.

Anyone else interested in joining me?

Not sure if this guys trip happened or not.

Hopefully he will post up.

If not I would say it should be good to go that time of year.

Nights will be cold especially in the higher elevations.

Oracle Ridge might have snow, possibly too much snow but not likely. You could always go down the Control Road.

Sounds like a good breakdown plan. Then you can do the northern section at a better time of year. To be honest Superior to Payson isn't much more then all roads. A new connection from Flag to the BCT is in the works. Maybe a more interesting center section for you when the time comes.
