New Smart Watch

I have an original Apple Watch with reduced battery capacity. I use it to track my exercise sessions, and use my iPhone for navigation on my bike (and hikes). Just noticed Garmin Watches are on sell at REI. Anyone use this in lieu of a phone or bike computer?  They seem capable.  Don?t need much navigation around town, but would like to start doing some bikepacking, mostly off road or gravel.
