Hi,

Glad to see there is a forum for this Smiley

Been trail riding off and on for about 12 years.  Been using my Gary Fisher Tassajara for the last 6, and it has been good enough to get me by.  Been on some long bike packing trips (6-7 days) in Moab where my gear was put to the test (hot weather, high winds, dust & dirt).

Bike could use some work.
I'd like to upgrade the brakes and possibly the fork but have limited knowledge as to what is available these days.

Any suggestions for a mostly stock aluminum hard tail?

Welcome from CO. I am running two Specialized A1 rides, a RH and SJ and I love them other than the v-brakes.

For a new bike with quality stock components (especially forks which are the most common item folks immediately upgrade) I would look into Airborne bikes. They are mail order only (i think they are CO based but i may be wrong) but get great reviews and the folks that run the company are active on mtbr.com and are very responsive to public input to refine designs. Good customer service reviews as well.

I've had my eye on the Goblin, which is a hard tail 29er. They also make FS 29ers and 26inch rides and I believe are all hydro formed aluminum frames. Best bang for the buck at the moment IMO.
