Rick, welcome to bikepacking.

Lots of info on this site and plenty of people willing to answer ?

A couple of suggestions.

First off wade thru a couple of the personal setups pages. That should get you started.

Once you do that ask yourself what level of comfort or lack there of meets your goals. Less gear translates to less comfort but usually results in faster times.

Just the basics: sleeping bag, sleeping pad, bivy sack or tarp or some shelter system, packs for the bike to carry it all, most likely a pack for your back but not everyone goes that route. Then of course there's the basic bike stuff you always need. Food, water, does the course have clean water sources or do you need a filter or tabs to purify.

Then if you have some more specific ? feel free to post up again.

Hope that helps get you started.

Hey Rick,

Here's my gear list from the 2010 CTR. I've updated it a fair bit since then, mostly by removing items--but it should help you get started. I'm going to post my 2012 version as soon as I get everything finalized.
