I seen the SOL Emergency Bivy at a local sport store. I was wondering if any one has any experience with them? Its cheap and light, but was wondering if they would last a 2 week bike trip or is it a one and done item.

Thanks Tony

There are a bunch of reviews here:

I haven't used mine as it is part of my emergency gear. I ended up getting a pertex bivy for $100 at the local shop (Rab Survival Zone). It's still almost as light and compact, wind and waterproof but it is also somewhat breathable and meant to be re-used.

I've used the SOL 'Escape" e bivvy a bunch of times in harsh Aussie conditions and it's held up a treat so far. It's pretty sturdy material, and would be easily fixed with the odd bit of duct tape if it did fail.

At around 0degC with a summer weight sleeping bag (read almost see through) it was the lower limit for me but that's about as low as I need to go around here, I sleep fairly warm. Had my feet drenched in rain while in it with no leakage and it seams to be breathable enough in the condensation department with no issues yet.

I'd say it should last a few winters for me at least

I have not used one, but am interested to see if it would work as a stand alone sleep system paired up with a light down jacket. It would make for a super light sleep system for the TD.

When were backpacking we are carrying a bit of clothing, insulated jacket, base layers, arm and leg wormers act. So if you wear say the base layer, insulated jacket leg warmers i think it will be warm to about 35-40 degree celcious.

Anyone tried out a similar sleep system?
